I just recently came across a large iron ball 4.8" in dia. and 15#. Which I believe it to be an artillery shell from the Civil War period. It has a 1" hole in one end. It is approx.2" deep. My concern is that it could be dangerous yet, if it is full of old black powder. Please offer me some direction on this. It is a beautiful collectors piece. I found this item at a flea market south of Wichita,Ks. I live in Haysville,Ks.

I live in North San Diego County, near Felicita County Park. About a month ago my spousal equivalent unearthed a canon ball in my back yard which weighs approx. 18 to 20 pounds! It is 5 inches in diameter. Can anyone help me identify it? I have pics.
