Default ID Harp Button

I recently visited the Annual Relic Show in Dalton, Georgia. I was rumaging through some odd relics and found this button. It is heavily gilted and has what looks to be a harp. The backmark is Superior Quality. If anyone has any ideas as to what era this button may belong I would be grateful. Thanx.

Actually, the button shows a musical instrument called a Lyre, not a harp.

What you've got is called a Musician's button. Although a few are civil war era, most are postwar and even much later. For example, back in the early 1970s I bought a high school Band jacket (at a yardsale) which has these Lyre buttons on it.

If I recall correctly, if the Lyre has 3 strings, it's civil war era. If it has 4 strings, it is postwar.

Regards,
Pete [P.C. George]
