What is considered to be the first U.S. fighting submarine during the Civil War?

The CS Pioneer?

There was actually an earlier US combat sub, The American Turtle, used in the Rev war.

You hit it right on the spot! The USS Alligator was the first Union combat submarine during the Civil War! Wait till tomorrow for the next day's question!
