Hi Gang,
I had the opportunity to attend yesterday's ( June 16, 2007 ) memorial service commemorating the death of General Leonidas Polk, The Bishop General of the Confederate Army. As you recall, General Polk was killed by a direct hit from a Union artillery shell on June 14th, 1865. He was an Episcopalian Bishop and also the founder of the University of the South in Suwanee Tennessee. There was a musket and cannon salute for General Polk and a cannon salute for our service people now serving in harm's way. Very nice service with many interesting presentations: Bill Brand, Commander of Sons of Confederate Veterans, Leonidas Polk Camp, Smyrna, Georgia Charlie Lott, Georgia State Commander of Sons of Confederate Veterans, Villa Rica, Georgia John Evans, professor and historian, University of the South, Suwannee, Tennessee Martin O'Toole, attornery and historian, Leonidas Polk Camp, SCV, Marietta, Georgia Father John Roddy, Anglican Catholic Church, Atlanta Georgia. Other Photos will follow, Rodney |
