Default How to add a link?

How do I add a link within the text of my post? For example, say I want the word Lincoln to have a hyperlink. I see the URL button and it makes the text a link but a pop up window does not appear to add the link to the word..??

I don't recall ever seeing a post on this website with a word hyperlinked within the text. Therefore I suspect that kind of hyperlinking is not permitted here, for Security and/or Antivirus reasons ...because, when you click on a hyperlinked word, you don't actually know "in advance" where it's really going to send you to. Sometimes it turns out to be a Spammer/Hacker/TrojanVirus trick.

When I want to post a link here, I cut-&-paste a URL into my post's text. (Such as: http://www.civilwarartillery.com/shottables ).
