    Warming weather requires caution!

Found this picture on another website...... but it reminded me of a 5' 1.2" Rattler that I ran up own 4 years ago while metal detecting at Mount Elba, on the Saline River in south Arkansas. This thing could do some serious hurt on you! It's 9' 1" long..... so the caption read. Kim

    Any ideas?

I found this some time back. And you know how it goes..... stick it in a "suspense" box until you can find out what if anything it is. It looks like some kind of a buckle, but the slits where the belt or strap would go through are too narrow. Can anyone help me on this? Thanks and take care, Kim

    Spring Break Relics

It's been a decent Spring Break for me...... away from the classroom, and into the woods with my metal detector. There's nothing like being out and relic hunting, instead of teaching Algebra to 9th and 10th graders. In the top photo there are a couple of .69 (?) cal. lead canister rounds...

    How did this happen?

Hey folks, I often leave the mud or soil in the cavities and rings of bullets. I found this oddity a few weeks ago, and just happened to pick it up last night and look at it again. Something caught my eye and I took a toothpick and began clearing the dirt from the cavity. You can see the...

Yesterday, a couple of buddies and I went to a battle site in south Arkansas where a Federal wagon supply train was captured by the Confederates. Aside from some spent bullets, we found some priming tubes for the artillery. I did a Google search trying to find more info on these relics...
