Hello Buckle and Plate experts-
My digging buddy Dave and I were out at our favorite site today in the western part of the state of Virginia, were we have dug 4 period US belt buckles, numerous period buttons (Reb and Yankee), and hundreds of bullets from both sides.
I dug today what appears to be a brass plate/buckle at only 1 inch down which I was suspect at only one inch down-but being that the ground is being grated, I dug and it rang out nicely. I have attached pics, there is one noticeable hook on the reverese, but there are no markings that I can see. I see a small wreath near the buttom and what appears to be a floral design around the face. I don't have enough info re. this and am curious to what it is that I have. Is this period, and if so, which side might have used this buckle? Thanks
