Confederate Scabbord Tip?

I recently found a relic in a overlapping camp. It has a small hole at the top, which led me to believe it's a scabbord tip of some sort. But I've never seen one like it before. It flares out at the top and is made of very thick brass like a spur as opposed to the normal thickness of a scabbord tip. I thought it might be confederate because of the different style, most yankee relics are made the same. Any ideas of what it is or who I could contact that would know would help. Thanks!

I think you almost got it pegged. My friend found one exactly like that back in the winter in a camp site that was occupied by Union and Confederate troops. We took it to the Nashville Relic show last year and had several people tell us that is was a flag pole end.

It is not a scabbard tip. The top of the artifact would not be protruding outward because this would cause it to be more easily torn off. Scabbard tips were as flush with the scabbard they were attached to as possible.

Neat artifact!

Best regards,
Gary
