Hello All,
Finally got out for a relic hunt about a month ago. A buddy and I went back to one of my old CS camps near Oxford, MS. We dug 11 bullets and a brass suspender piece. Found my first Volcanic pistol bullet (fired but in great condition). There were 8 different bullet types in what we dug: .54 Selma 'Lube Groove', .32 Volcanic (fired), .32 Smith & Wesson (fired), .58 3-ring, MM180 CS Sharps ringtail, 57 base Enfield, MM462 Sharps, and 4 TT138D .54 CS 3-rings with paraboloidal base cavities. Fun assortment. Guess we'll go back. Attached is a lousy picture which does not show the Selma bullet.

Great finds you got there. I just got out my self and did very well but my camera isn't working. Cant wait to see more
 
It's about time you got back out, thanks for posting the pics. You have a way with finding MM-180's.

Hello Guys,
Thanks for yopur responses. I'm almost embarressed to say that that was my first relic hunt in two years. My digging partner needed to get 'out of the house' (away from family pressures) for the weekend. He offered to do the driving to Oxford as I spend every day on the job in my pickup truck "office".

The evening before our hunt we enjoyed several beers recounting our relic hunts from years gone by. During our hunt my friend keep repeating "I can't believe I drank 15 beers last night". He sounded like an old TV comercial. He dug the perfect .54 Selma bullet...a signal I gave to him because I had dug three bullets already and he had nothing. That was the only CW bullet he found that day. But he's ready to go back (with less beer!).

NavChief, as to the Selma Arsenal Sharps tie base MM180's, I have found them to be fairly common in CS General N. B. Forrest's 1864 sites. On two occasions I dug about 13 dropped specimens on each hunt. All in the Oxford, MS, area. That is a nice bullet type. I was lucky.

is this possibly north of oxford around hurricane. Found an old road map and been looking that way as a possible site.
 
Have hunted there over the years. Now, however, almost all of the properties have changed hands and the new landowners and animal hunters who lease some of the land are not relic hunter friendly (found this out in December when I went up there).
