Help with relic ID

Hello everyone. Does anyone know what this is? It has threading and is extremely mangled. It is a tough metal that is not pliable with the hands. It looks as if it blew out of something. It kind of looks like a fuse but I can't identify it in any of my books. It also seems too small to be a fuse. Any ideas?

Responding as you requested in your PM to me:
As you seem to already know, civil war artillery projectiles and their fuzes is my "specialty area" of collecting and study. As I had to say in another reply about your mystery-objects... "Despite my 35+ years as a civil war relic digger and dealer, I do not recognize it as being any kind of a Military relic."
