Hunt last weekend.

We made a hunt last weekend to one of our normal stomping grounds in Port Hudson and I was able to pull out two pistol balls (haven't put the calipers on them yet), one pistol minie (Sage .36 cal revolver, flat base 1 groove, T&T 40), and two .69 cal musket balls.

Don't musket balls actually measure LARGER than the rifle bore before being shot?

Good to hear that someone is pulling something out of the ground! As to your question, your .69 musket balls usually measure in the range of .64-.65. They are intended to be fired from a musket barrel with an inside diameter of .69. Bullets are identified by the caliber of weapon they are intended to be fired from, not their actual caliber. Hope this helps.

well, i knew that was the case for minies, but i thought that i read someplace that the musket balls actually had a larger caliber than the bore and had to be forced in. i may be getting some things crossed up. thx for the musket ball info.

Where do I go to post my finds?
