Nice horse shoe. Having been hunting since about 1968, I still hang them on tree limbs at the site. Maybe I should be saving them! The fired bullets and cartridge box iron buckles I do keep. Good hunt. Glad for you!

Hi PIA, I am greatful for the help, I had no idea that was a Cartridge Box Buckle, I am very new at this, but glad to find this out, I just figured I would keep the Horseshoe, right now I am keeping most things I find when I go there to the Fort, take care and Happy Hunting, James

Hello James,

Actually the iron buckle could be off a knapsack as well as a cartridge box. Possibly off a horse harness, too. They are all about the same. As to keeping everything, that's the best thing to do. Some military preservationists in the past (including myself!) have thrown into the trash items we wish we could have back, thinking them to have no importance.

Ok, PIA, once again I am greatful for any help. I might get a Civil War Relic Book, to see if I can ID some things I have found, the buckle I found at the actual fort site, while the Minie bullets I got in a rifle trench, I think, further down the hill along with that Horseshoe. I am still trying to learn about what action and which Regiments occupied this fort up here in knoxville, use a Soverign up here for a Detector and most of the minie bullet where just a very light beep, I was surprised, I might have walked just by them, well have a Great New Year, James

Hello James,

Good finds. Get out there and dig some more. Please continue to send pictures of what you come up with. Some of us are not able to get out as much as we used to, but are tickles to see what others excavate!

Gary

Hey James,

That Soveriegn should do an awsome job for you. Looks like you have been enjoying yourself with it. I hunt with a Garrett GTI 1500, I wouldn't trade it for anything.... except a 2500, lol. Dig those iron hits because you can turn up a bunch of those iron buckles. Most of the ones I have found are for knapsacks and saddles. Good luck.
