Hello-very new to this board and think it is just terrific! So happy to have found this site-a great job. Hope i am going about this in the correct manner-but i've an extremely large butcher/bowie style knife-i'm guessing pre civil war possibly? Blade measures nearly 12inches long, and total length of 17+ inches. Wood handle, held on with 3 screws, but do not beleive it is the original handle, does not fit closely to the blade. End of blade that is received into the handl has a barbed or harpoon type shape which fits into a mold of the inside of the handle. Has a maker stamp, but too pitted to make out. Could possibly make out an EX...... and then the maker marks turns into a half circle of lettering as well. Maybe some of you folks out there know of knife manufactures in which begin with the letters ex? Appreciate any suggestions and all the help-keep up the terrific work! Thanks so much!
