I found this in the woods next to a civil war battlefield. I saw smaller similar looking items referred to as "shot", but this is larger. It seems to be round with a cross shape on top, but is broken at the bottom. Aside from an ID, is there a safe way to clean this up? Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.
