Melted Lead

Dave got me to thinking again (A dangerous thing)! Why do we find so much melted lead. I have thought about the soldier sitting around the campfire..... maybe unloading or pulling a bullet from his weapon and casting it into the fire...... removing torn or wet cartridges, etc. I've seen a lot of discussion about field casting bullets.... nae and yea! I've dug some fire "pits" that have had so much melted lead in them.... you'd have thought it a field arsenal. What are some of you folks' ideas about this?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and ideas.

Take care,

Kim

soark, this post has been here awhile but i just came across it looking around...being new here and all...i wonder the same thing about this melted lead and also the "chewed lead" hospital bullets and even the carved bullets...there was alot of time spent around fire pits to be able to carve the way they did...and the pain to be in in order to literally "bite the bullet" awesome. sure hope this gets the "bullet rolling" on this topic...have you ever tried to carve one of those bullets? i suppose being at war and seeing alot of what those soldiers saw they could only bide their time doing these things...keep it going. take care 2.
