For Sale: An original Model 1842 Springfield musket dated 1848. These muskets were used on both sides during the Civil War. This musket shows signs of heavy usage. There is pitting around the bolster and rear of the barrel from firing where sparks splattered fulminate over the metal. The stock is in good condition overall, but there is some burn loss to the wood just behind the bolster, indicative of having been fired countless times. The nipple is worn down too, as one would expect. However, the hammer still cocks perfectly. The metal appears to have been cleaned at one time as this musket is almost completely void of rust. The front barrel band has some surface rust and dings though. Overall, this musket has character and is a good representation of a commonly used Civil War firearm. It also still functions perfectly.
