Hello everyone. I am new to the sight. I did not get any threads under another section I posted my question. Can anyone tell me if the Confederacy issued any bills where there was no signature or serial number? I have a couple of Canal Bank bills. Thanx, Shilohboy

Hello Shilohboy:

The Canal Bank sure did issue some attractive American Civil War era notes. About your question: The lack of signatures would normally mean that the notes were never issued, but I would be weary of any notes without serial numbers. There are known some uncut (perhaps now cut??) fake Canal Bank notes. From the American Numismatic Association website:

Money.org | Replicas of Obsolete Notes

You might contact Amanda Sheheen, in Camden, SC--see index
She is an expert in the area of currency, and her website is like a mini museum of notes. Good luck in your research—Civil War era notes are a nice collectible, I think.
