Greetings all, lady luck was with me this past weekend. I found my first exploding button, thankfully it was not a rare general service eagle button but a quite common union artillary button  . My personal theory on these type of buttons is that long ago the face and the back seperated allowing dirt to fill the cavity, once dug the tiny amount of moisture in the dirt evaporates and the button breaks up. The coin is a '39 Jefferson gun parts were cool, the musket nose cap was easy to identify, the other piece I do not have a clue, any help would be appreciated. Enjoy the pics,

Smoothbore out.
