Third Day Back At The Old Home Place

I carried a digging buddy with me to the Old Home place Jan. 28, 2002. He found a Bayonet Scabbard Tip, 6-.577 Cap Nose Minies, and around 15-.69 Rounds with the bucks. The picture shows what I found. The landowner is going to turn this ground so I'll be back.

Keep digging and have fun!

Chuck,

I really believe the warts were caused from the gun powder? Most .69's that were dug had the bucks with it. The balls, bucks, and the ground around them were black.

I fixed the message and it should be viewable to all. Yes, you are probably correct. Gun powder will also do that, but I have notice that type of surface action is worse on farmed lands that get a lot of lime and fertilizer for some reason. The only other place I have seen that type of surface damage is a union ammo dump.

Love the pictures. The fertilizer will do a lot of damage to relics, especially brass. I agree that your lead damage is due to contact with powder and other lead objects.
