Very interesting flintlock bore profiles

[Battlefield 1866]

Here is another scan from the collection in the Coburg armory. These weapons were specially made and probably presentation pieces, so they do not represent a "common" rifle type at all.

But, I sure would love to find one of the projectiles these things fired. They are rifled, the rifling in the shape of the bore - as you can see in the picture.

Yah learn something every day! I have been studying firearms for a while and that is the very first heart shaped bore that I have ever seen, or heard of for that matter.

Must be from the legendary Cupid collection <grin>.

There are some pretty crazy weapons in this museum, as well as just about every other here that has weapons. There are flint locks with removable breech - interchangeable for fast reloading. Also some with revolving barrels, pretty ingenious and advanced weapons considering some of these things were being experimented with way before they were "officially invented.
