I am relatively new to relic hunting surprisingly because i did not know of the opportunities i had. My dad bought a Nautilus DMC II B for an outstanding price and even tho he is not a relic hunter himself, he thought it a good investment for me. At the time i was to young to use this at first complicated machine, but after some recent practical uses (lost items) this whole swingin' concept has inspired me.

I Grew up around Richmond's National Battlefield Parks and not until recently did i discover exactly where the troops traversed around these parts. Being so close to Malvern Hill and White Oak Swamp i should of put two and two together a while ago. So when talking to my neighbor recently (An old Jarhead and Once an avid relic hunter), referring to "My"Back Yard, he said son that was General Lee's Backyard before it was yours. Caught off guard, i listened to him tell me the story of the Union Retreat to The James River in the aftermath of their failed attempt at Penetrating R.E. Lee's forces east of the city of Richmond. I have now inspired him to get out in spite of a prosthetic leg and pick back up where he left off with this hobby. Although I am aware that most of this area has been thoroughly hunted, I was assured that there are many more relics to find, and reassured when i found some of my own!

To sum this up, I am very excited about this new opportunity and hopefully have chances to hunt more often. All of your feed back is very much appreciated, and I am obliged to share my information with you all. Hopefully you all can help me obtain the knowledge about the relics I recover. Thanks everyone for their support.

Hello TaylorES, Welcome to the Civil War Bullet forum.

As you may have gathered from reading my posts, I'm an "oldtimer" relic-digger, whose mission nowadays is to help the "rookies" in the relic hobby, like I was helped back in the 1970s when I was a rookie. (It's called "Paying It Forward.") I'll answer you bullet ID-request over in that discussion-area. Unlike most of the rookie diggers I meet here, you live in my area of Virginia. Email me your phone number, please, because talking is easier for me than "lengthy" typing. You are welcome to bring your bullets and any other relics by my house and I'll ID them for you ...because, particularly with bullets, photos cannot always show tiny details necessary for correctly ID-ing them.

Regards,
Pete [P.C. George]
