Hi, my first post. So hello to all.
I spotted this auction and 4 others by the same seller and bid and won all 5 for a total of 6 of these .45. I've dug since 85' and attended many shows in the last 25 years all around central miss. And at one time had 4- 11"x14" red velvet cases with over 300 types of bullets. But never had a Whitworth.
From the looks of them, they seem to be Whitworth's. Mostly fired but in good shape. The seller had 5 auctions with 2 rougher ones in the last auction that I got for $4.99 for a total of 6 possible Whitworth's.
I spent about $75 for all 5 auctions. My gut said,"hhhummmm,.45 cylindrical with what appears hexagon 6 sided lands". They apparently slipped by with only a couple other collectors noticing it. But from my last visit to the Franklin Show,Whitworths are pretty high up there. In the 80's a dropped would bring $100.These appear all fired but in good shape.
So whats your opinion? Did my gut tell me right? Check out the pic below. Thanks,JR
