Default Protective coil cover

This is probley a stupid question but I'm gonna ask it. The protective cover that comes with a fisher coil if it is own does it take away any detecting ability?

No. It simply protects the coil from scratches.

Hi My Fellow TH'ers
First off there is no such thing as a stupid question. A coil cover is there to protect the coil from wearing through and thus destroying the coil. You need to check your covers at least annually to see if it has worn through and if it has replace it. It is a lot cheaper to replace a cover ($15.00) as oppossed to a coil which might cost several hundred dollars. Ask the question on here if anyone has worn a hole through there coil when they have a cover in place. I am willing to bet that if you get one person in 100 to say that they had a coild wear through it was due to inattention to wear. More likely damage to a coil will come from being stepped on or transporting to the field.

Good Luck in all you do!

Make sure you clean your coil and cover periodically to protect your investment. If your coil is water proof, hose it down, if not, wipe clean. Like others have mentioned, sure beats buying a new coil!
