Default yet another....whats this?

i have been told it's a 1.65 hotchkis casing....it is brass its approx.4 inches long and 1 inch in diameter...open one end and small (fuse like ) hole on the other...no markings....was told it was 1870's mountain gun cartridge.....What do you think?
