Default Civil War Soldier's Ring?

Found this recently at Fredericksburg (on private land with owner's permission). It was near the top of what looked like a line of shallow trenchworks on what was a Confederate line. The ring is definitely handmade and has some unusual script-work on the top. The top (when looking at the image) script looks like a "C" and then an "S", the bottom script looks like a large "A" without the cross line. Of course, it could be anything and the letters I see may be just wishful thinking!

Has anyone ever seen such an item and any suggestions as to a better identification?

Default Worth a try!

Try making an imprint in some playdoh or silly-putty and see if it is some sort of ring-stamp or seal.
