Default interesting civil war?

I dug this on Ft. neegly site 5- 58 cal. bullets within 4 ft.It's made of lead with a brass cover and a striker wheel in the center. What the heck is it? Thanksinteresting-civil-war-civil-war-relic-004.jpg

come on somebody take a guess, I figured one of you yanks would have an idea since Ft. Negley was finished and occupied by the north during the war.It appears to be some kind of striking device.Let's talk

Default A Guess

Maybe it is the top to some sort of old oil lamp... the wick coming up out of the slot in the middle, many times the middle slot had a metal wick-guide that fed the wick up through the slot, etc.....??

but i don't think there is enough room for the wick to fit between slot and wheel but i think your on the right track thanks again john
