Dug musket display question

Hi guys! I`m a new member & longtime collector of civil war relics with a question. I recently got a dug enfield rifle-musket & was wondering what the best way would be to attach it to a barn board for display purposes. I`m sure it could look great & be quite solid if it were epoxied to it, but thats a little too permanant & may damage the value. Any ideas/suggestions?

I don't think I'd epoxy it...
Perhaps use a couple of "J" shaped hooks (strategically placed) to set it in. Not sure if there's anything old and decorative in that area but would look cool and enable you to remove the gun to show people... unless you don't want anyone handling it
Maybe glue some felt pads (trimmed out felt from craft store) on the inside of the hook to keep it from scratching.

Do you know anyone that can work with metal? A couple of iron pieces (flat and long) could be bent, drilled for screws or bolts and even aged.

That's a nice gun you got there. I would try to fabricate something with "J" hooks and mount it on some 3/4 finished oak plywood. With a good stain, and the hooks, you would have a neat display.

Thanks guys! For the barrel,rammer,& bands ,I`ll probably use a j hook of some kind, the nosecap & lock may have to be attached with some type of "light", or "temporary" adhesive. It`s all there except the screws, rear sight & wood. I guess the next decision is weather or not to give it an electrolosis treatment or not. I`ll try to put some photos up soon so ya`ll can take a look. It was dug in Richmond,Va.,& I got it from a well known & reputable dealer in Tennessee. Thanks for the ideas, they are very much appreciated & please keep `em comming!

Happy New Year! Well, I havent forgot the photos I promised you all, I`m just having a little trouble attaching photos.I dont know what I`m doing wrong but hopefully I will get it figured out soon! I`m on a mac osx, any suggestions?

Hey Capt. Bob,
Sounds like a great piece you have there! I'd use Elmer's white glue because it will disolve with water if needed!
Sounds like you need to down size your pictures. I forget the biggest size allowed but it will prompt you if it's too large.
Here is a link to some free photo software to assist in down sizing. I personally use IPhoto Plus 4 but that was purchased years ago. Once you practise, you'll get better and my software has a stitch function that I really like!

raw-war digger : Thanks for the info. buddy! I`ve been away for a few days, so I haven`t had a chance to try it yet. I`ll try again in the next couple days. I did however, get it mounted. I attached the butplate & trigger guard/assembly by drilling holes in an old barn board where the screws went, & ran old pieces of leather thong through both pieces, & knotted them on both ends, clipped off the excess, & presto! The barrel is attached with opened-up screw eyes so it can be lifted off, & the lock is wired onto the breech end. I glued the nosecap on with rubber cement. I also made sure the board was long enough so I could attach my dug Enfield bayonet with thongs also.(this one is from Gettysburg!) Anyway, I ordered nameplates for it (one for the musket & one for the bayonet), so it`s comming together real good! I screwed the whole board to the wall for stability.(DON`T TRY THIS WHEN THE WIFE IS HOME!...you were warned!) Anyway, It`s in MY den, & besides,It`s not a good idea to have unstable weapons in the house!(ha,ha!) Anyway, nice CS tounge ya got there!(that didn`t come out right!) Did you dig it?
