Hello fellow diggers,
My hunting buddies, Dave & Mark posted a few months about this civil war Union encampment that we've been hunting regularly since April-and this site continues to amaze me in the finds we continue to recover.
This past Saturday, I hunted our favorite Union encampment site: the site that keeps on giving. Dave & Mark could not join me as they could only get out Sunday which I could not do. We call this encampment "the site that keeps on giving" because we've been hitting this site since April and have dug probably close to 200 drops, .44s and .54s, round shot, and over 2 dozen buttons, general service, "A" and "I" buttons.
On Saturday, I brought in a rake and raked over an hour previous areas that we have already detected, and dug 2 more dropped .44s, 2.54s, 1 general service jacket/breast button, and my first: 1 NY State Seal Staff Officer C button with excelsior inscription around the 13 stars on the bottom of the button. Button has almost 60-70% gilt, is beautiful with eye hook fully intact no smoosh at all, fully legible back mark states: "Quality Extra" with two small starts on opposite sides.
And this site was supposedly "all hunted out" per fellow ther's. It all goes to show-no site is completely hunted out if one will take his time and rake the area to unmask the goodies lying just below the surface.
I am having difficult in posting pics but hope to do so this week as I upload from my camera but I get an error message stating pics to big-how do I re size so I can post? Thanks
Wayne
