16 pound cannon ball

Good day folks, this is my first post. I tried it last week but it didn’t seem to get the job completed. Hope I do a better job on this one!

I am a newbie and I would like help in identifying this eBay cannonball! After getting it, I thought that it might be a shot put. It weights 15 lbs, 15 oz and is 5.10” in diameter (but I could be off a touch on the measurement). But there is a definite mold seam around the middle, a filler hole that is in the middle of the seam and mold vent sprue at 90 degrees from the filler hole. Just like in the drawing. I would say that it is iron, not steel.

It was found out West, in a field near Fort Tuthill, outside of Flagstaff. The fort was named in the late 1920’s but it was an outpost for the First Regiment of Arizona Volunteers in 1865 and later, the First Arizona Infantry in 1877. Some of the regiment joined the Rough Riders in 1898.

It could be some sort of machinery ball but I am not familiar with what they look like, what they weigh or how they are made. Anyone have any ideas? According to an Alamo Cannon website I saw, the Texans had iron 16 pound cannon in their arsenal when Santa Ana attacked the Alamo in1836. I have heard of other cannons firing a 16 pound ball, maybe French or Spanish. Anyone familiar with them? Thanks.
