Hey all,

I've only been relic hunting since last July, I started when we moved to Quantico from Camp Lejeune - at first I was just hoping to find one CW bullet, thanks to help from lots of folks I been lucky enough to find a more than a few. I had hoped to find a few cleaner bullets and a Plate before we left but my hopes grew dim as it grew nearer and nearer to time to move. Today was my last chance before we move on Weds, I decided to try one last time at a camp I found last year, I had worked the area over many times and the finds got fewer and fewer. Today I decided to give it one more try in a small area I have neglected due to alot of modern trash. I was down to my last 15 min before I had to come home and . . . . I got a hit - a +58 and turned up a Sharps short carbine, then got a +61 and turned up my first cleaner bullet! I continued down the narrow strip I had avoided all this time and got a solid +95 Hot Rock signal - thinking it was a deep Minie I dug and was surprised to find another cleaner. It was almost like I was being guided to the exact spot I needed to be with time running out at the very last minute I got another +61 signal pinpointing small at 3.5 in - I thought another cleaner bullet and dug down only to find nothing! I rePP'd and the DFX said the target was still there at 3.5 in. I knew that the DFX is calibrated to coin size objects so the object must be deeper and bigger than a coin. I raised up the coil to get an est of how much deeper the target was. I dug down another three inches hoping not to see a coke can but instead saw a beautiful sight- a soft green patina on a curved object . I almost went out and bought a plate y'day I was so pessimistic about my chances after all this time.

Thanks everyone for the help w/ IDs , and PMs with advice -

Hey Dave.

WOW, tremendous story !! I loved the voice mail message. :D I REALLY appreciate you sharing the excitement with me this morning. ( Sorry I was asleep at 7 am on a Saturday morning ! ).

Can't wait to talk to you about it. Talk about cutting it close. I bet the detector was minutes away from being packed up, but you swung it one last time. AMAZING story.

Hey, can you give us a close up of those cleaners ? They look a little unusual.

Be safe on the move, swing by to see me if you're headed through Atlanta. CONGRATULATIONs !!

Congrats on the cleaners! To bad you did'nt start hunting while at Camp Lejeune. I live in New Bern and the CW relics are great in this area! Good luck with your move!

Travis,

I actually did go one time w/ my CO- I conned my way out of work one day to check out a const site across from Taberna. I found my 1st CW bullets and didnt have to work since my CO was out there also. As I understand from your posts you primarily hunt Union occupation sites since the rebs were run out so early? I spent nearly my entire career at either Cherry Point or New River so i know the area but only got into relic hunting just before I left last year. My new billet does take me back up that way once or twice a year though so Ill definitely look you up next time Im up there.

Bama,
Anytime your here look me up! Yes, most of the town is full of Union stuff as you stated! They occuppied the town for 3 1/2 years and built numerous fortifications! But hey, I'll take what they dropped! LOL!
