Today I visited w/ my 2nd cousin who gave me several wartime letters and the diary of my Great great grandfather Cpl John S Campbell 11th Pa Reserves. It wasnt dug but treasure just the same- I ve just begun reading his dairy covering much of 1862 -4 and laughed right off as I can appreciate his entry having been exposed to the NOVA winter as a 2nd Lt in the field for infantry training he states:
6 Jan 1862 "Out on picket- cold it is no fun doing picket duty in the winter"
