Cleaning

Do most of you guys clean your relics via electrolosis? I clean my coins with chemical electrolisis but it would be too harsh on other items. How many of you use the traditional electrlosis method to clean relics and has it ever damaged any of your finds?

I use my battery charger only for iron artifacts. Since coins are not my speciality, you have my deferance on that aspect of collecting.

Thx PIA. I know a bunch of people that clean coins like that, but i'm chicken to ruin stuff. I have already ruined so many things by trying new methods, LOL. Think I'm just gonna use a tumbler

Yeah, I would never destroy a nice patina. Well, once I did on accident. I dug a nice CSA Standard that was perfect in shape and had not been fired. It had a beautiful smooth, milk white patina that I destroyed by putting a HUGE gash in it. LOL. I have never made that mistake again.

You could use a detergent made for hand washinf such as prell oe lux and soak the coin in a warm water with a small amount of the detergent. It worked pretty well with some coins I have found basically just to remoce the soil.

I use liquid soap also. It is ok as long as it is not too harsh and the relics are not soaked in them.
