I found this relic on a creek bottom recently. It measures about 6 inches in diameter and is somewhat irregular. It appears to be made up of wound copper but has a iron looking coating on it. The metal detector indicates that it is copper or silver. The ring is about 1 inch in thickness. I do not believe this to be of post civil war era. It has no attachments that would make me think it was an electrical device, such as a toroidal coil used for control purposes on any electrical device. I found this in a stream that is near a pre civil war community that I am researching.
