Hi Gang.

Saw this in the latest Newsweek:

From Newsweek Perspectives:

"It was still beeping, and that just gave me the idea to keep digging. I think it's a normal human reaction, especially when you think there might be gold down there."

-Henry Mora, 63, who dug a 60-foot-deep hole in front of his Montclair, Calif., home after his gold detector picked up a signal in his yard. He found nothing.

Is this what we're headed for ?

I bet he was using a Fisher ! ( That should start something )

Take care, don't dig your dry holes too deep.

story

Rodney,

why pick on a fisher. Hey, he was getting a signal. Seems that I remember someone on this site told us to dig every signal. Even those folks with those expensive White's and mine labs have asked me to pinpoint with my little ole fisher machine. You would think that something that expensive would not have to have extra attachments to find your buried treasure.

I bet it was a White's. ( Nice try Grasshopper )

Hey guys,

Ha! At least you're not picking on my machine..... I use the Troy Shadow X-5..... and absolutely love the way it works

Must be a big nugget that guy was digging. Anyone know why he stopped? 8)

Take care,

Kim

Im supprized some kid didn't chain his bike up to that thing, when that guy wasn't using it.

Hey Guys,

For the record, I have a Fisher and a Whites !

Plus like the guy in the story, I've dug my share of deep, dry holes in the ground. Just not gotten to 60 feet yet. :D

Gotta love this hobby.

I will take on anyone that reads a meter to decide to dig

Hi All My Fellow TH'ers
Yes I am one of those folks that digs every signal and I will put my finds up against anyone that reads their meter to decide to dig or not. My TH'ing Buddy uses a Garrett and I can tell you that in seven years of TH'ing together he has found a 1875 Half Dime and a beautiful Calvary Button, both of which I have yet to find. He uses his meter to decide if the target is the right size to be a coin, bullet, or button. Now if you take overall finds into consideration as I said I dig every signal and my finds include a 1854 One Dollar Gold Dollar, 1680 Spanish Reale, 1795 Large Cent, 1798 large Cent, 1801 Large Cent, 1807 Large Cent, 1817 Large Cent, Seated Dimes, Standing Quarters, Walker Halves, Civil War Bullets, Buttons, well the list is impressive but the point is my average good find is close to one percent of everything I dig but I would never just use the meter to decide what to dig and what to walk away from. Many times my Buddy will tell me he has a large target that is eight inches down but it is too big and if I want to dig it to go for it. Several times it has turned out to be multiple Civil War Bullets in a cluster. You have to remember that all detectors are only as good as the operator that is using it. There are so many ways to make this great hobby pay for itself, if you dig up trash take it home and recycle it. I sell all my scrap metal and take home $200 to $300 a year. I also recycle glass and plastic that I find; I help clean up the environment which makes the land owners happy and gets me invited back over and over. Another thing I do is to make sure I cover my holes but not just fill the holes I bury dead leaves which also makes the area clearer, cleaner and alot more fun to search. Give it a try and see if your good find numbers increase and your invites to return do also.
Stay safe and Happy TH'ing :)
