id small flower buttom....is it civil war?

may need close up view.button measures 1 1/2 mm --2 mm.....unsure of back mark is pretty worn. also button is more silver in appearance than the pic scan shows....it appears gold on scan thank you. here is another with same dimensions......the center flower is raised slightly higher than the outside edges.

I am not the expert that would ID this button as Civil War or not. But, I can refer you to a site that has a whole page of listings on flower buttons...... www.saylerscreekrelics.com

Paul Rice has an excellent selection of flower buttons to look at. Yours certainly appears similar to several that are listed there. Yours also has an excellent patina that would attest to considerable age and ground action. I would think it had a very good chance of being CW vintage.

Does it have a back-mark that is visible and readable? What size is it (cuff or vest, etc)? The button books usually have measurements in millimeters. I do know that the pros here enjoy having as much info for an ID as they can have.

Michelle, it would help when entering pictures to do both sides. You didn't say but this appears to be a one piece button and probably dates from around 1830. I have one identical to it which is a one piece button from an 1830's site.

Hello Michelle, a buddy of mine recently dug a button almost identical to that one in a Confederate camp a couple months ago. The best we could figure is that maybe when one of the "Johnny Rebs" joined up he had on an old civilian jacket of some sort. Hope this helps.
