IDENTIFY BRONZE PIECE

i FOUND THIS PIECE IN A YARD WE WERE HUNTING IN NASHVILLE AND DO NOT HAVE A CLUE AS TO WHAT IT IS. I THINK IT IS A PIECE OF ARTILLERY BUT WHAT?

THE DIMENIONS ARE THE ROUND DISK IS 1-3/16" DIAMETER X 1/16" THICK, THE SHAFT IS 1/8" THK. X 1/4 WIDE X 3-1/4" LONG. THE OVERALL LENGTH IS 3-1/2." tHE DISK IS WELDED OR BRAISED ONTHE SHAFT AND IT HAS TEETH THE LENGTH OF THE SHAFT AND IS MADE FROM BRONZE.

ANY HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED FOR I AM NO ARTILLERY TYPE PERSON.

I also have one of those.... shaped a hair different, but is made of iron. I thought it was a friction pull of some sort.

Hello,

it is very similar to what we called canon nails- It was used to close the
ignition hole ,when there was a danger of capture of the gun. Bronce pieces where used for temporay desactivation,so the gun wouldnt be used against own troops-couldt be drilled out easy when the situation clears.
Steel nails where used in fortification for a long time desactivation-they often where hardened and couldnt drilled out - so the hole ignition insert must be reamed out.
Those nails where equipped to each gun here.
