MS LeMat - Found Relic 1950

Guys -

And this guy didn't even need a metal detector! In 1950 in Verona, MS a 7 year old boy was following a bulldozer picking up worms to go fishing in his grandfathers pond. Looking up he saw a rusty old pistol which he happily picked up and took home to clean with gasoline and a wire brush. Once "cleaned" he eventually took it to a local gunsmith some years later for some "repairs". The 1st model LeMat is missing the loading lever (never there since found), the front sight, grips (poor replacements), trigger return spring, 1 nipple (on .42 cal cyl) and has a screw all the way thru the shotgun (63 cal.) barrel. Don't ask me about the repairs - not my plan. I had a great visit with the finder/owner last week, and "No", it isn't for sale. Any opinions as to value are welcome.

The darn thing is in mechanically good condition considering the 85 years in the ground, and I just wish I'd been out looking for worms that day. The site (now a Hardee's) was one of NBF's local HQ buildings.

Selma Hunter,

Some people have all the luck! As a friend of mine once said, "even a blind hog sometimes finds an acorn." The revolver is a wonderful find and thanks for your friend sharing it with you, and you with us guys.
