New Finds and Relic ID Help.

I found these at a old but reliable campsite, it seems every time I go here I at least find a bullet. It could have been better though, my hunting partner found a enfield trigger with the guard still attached. I guess you can't always find the good stuff. Anyhow maybe some of you experts can tell me what the object on the far left is? I'm thinking maybe a percussion box top, but who knows? Any input would be appreciated, it may not even be anything. Thanks!

P.S. Sorry about the low pic quality.

Non-ferrus with hinge

Rebel Digger -

Looks to be copper and hinged. Possibly a compass cover, but normally those are brass. Most cap tins not hinged - I never saw one that was in 40 years of going to gun shows, but that does not exclude the possibility. Perhaps a medicine tin.

Better pics would be helpful.

And good morning to all.

Thanks Selma Hunter, I will try to get some better pics of the thing uploaded on here tonight. By the way it is made of copper, and is hinged, this thing has got me baffled. But it did come from a campsite so... I don't wanna trash it out quite yet :D . It may not be anything more than a modern gas cap or something like that, it seems like that's always how my luck goes but anyhow.

Ive found ladies compacts that look like that. The lid has a small miror, and base has the powder and puff thingy.

( I found them in the woods with my metal detector) Not rifling through someone dresser. :)

A CW cross-dresser?

Frank -

My posting title is in jest, but you do raise a good point. What about camp followers, families, and plain old prostitutes? We know that such things did happen, and I can just imagine one of the ladies "getting her face put back on" after a "brief reunion". Not common for them to be embedded [no pun] in a camp but if it was in use over a period of time, or was a winter camp with huts..... well, could be.

Keep talking Frank - you make more sense than a first read might offer.

And a cheery good morning to all.

Im looking around my house to see if I can find one Ive found. Meantine look at this auction. Pay close attention to the hinge. Also pill boxes are like this too.

No reason why a soldier wouldn't have a compact. It had a miror he could use, shave etc. He could bust off the top and toss the rest.

Cheers.

Ok, heres one I found. See the simularities.

My comments were only to guess based on what Ive found. I applogize if I jumped in where I should not have.

Thanks Fellas For All The Input!

I really do appreciate all the input I always get here on the site. Now that I think about it does kinda look like a top to a compact. Especially towards the back where the hinges are. By the way, I did find it at a winter camp near Corinth,MS. So it could possibly be a compact. The mystery has finally been solved! Everyone wish me luck Im going to a new spot either Saturday afternoon but for sure all day Monday it looks to be promising. I hope I have some new finds to post for ya'll to look at, take it easy and I appreciate it!

Possible "Snuff Box". My Grandfather had one that was similar, he said it once belonged to his father. Sorry I don't have a picture, but the snuff box went to another member of the family.

Hummm...

My guess is that it is a tobacco tin. I've seen one similar, post period however...
