For Sale: An original Civil War Confederate cap box. This cap box has a large, rectangular, scalloped outer flap and lead finial on the bottom. It is very similar to the Baton Rouge Arsenal production cap box featured on page 197 of Echoes of Glory: Arms and Equipment of the Confederacy. Most Confederate cap boxes had a single belt loop on the back. However, this one had two belt loops on the reverse just like the Baton Rouge Arsenal ones. The belt loops are long gone, but the hand stitching is still visible. Most of the closure tab is gone, as is the right ear (side cover) once stitched to the inner flap. Part of the inner flap is gone as well. At one time this cap box had a wool fleece pad inside and a nipple pick, but both are long gone. This was often done during the war. It has never been cleaned and the top flap is the only portion that features cracking. There appears to be some faint markings on the outer flap, but I cannot make them out. Although this cap box has suffered some wear and tear throughout the past 150 years, it is still quite displayable.
