I have a lead on a White's Spectrum XLT for $450. Its used but is clean etc. No other acc come with it.

Worth $450? Im a Fisher user so I don't have a clue on the Whites.

Also, is the Whites Vibra Probe worth having. Or is there another pinpoint probe thats better cheaper etc?

ThanX,

Whites

Frank,
I use a fisher but a detecting friend has a whites. I wish he would invest in a pin point. I use the fisher to help pin point an object. The price sounds a little high but I don't know for sure. If you do but I would invest in the pointer. Hope this helps make up your mind.

A reliable dealer told me for relics the MXT is better, cheaper and goes deeper than the other top end White's. I bought an MXT and love it. I invested in the Sun Ray in line pinpointer and am soooo glad I did. It works great. Goes about three inches deep on bullet sized items in full sensitivity. A friend of mine who owns a White's pin pointer says it can't compete with the Sun Ray. I know the Sun Ray is pricey, but I wouldn't be without one now that I bought one. KCSteve owns an MXT and I'm sure will be chiming in with positive feedback on the MXT, as well. The neat thing about the relic mode on the MXT is you hear an all metal signal behind the discrimination signal. It really helps me to ID deep, faint signals once you get to know what bullets sound like in the all metal mode. The prices I've been seeing on eBay for a used unit with no accessories is around $500. They are a popular seller, right now.

Hope this helps,

Frank,
The Whites XLT at $450 sounds okay. Might be a little high with no accessories. There are a couple of guys in my club that use an XLT and they seem to really like them. I have heard no complaints.
The Whites Vibra Probe IS worth having if that is all what's available. I have used the Vibra Probe and it got me by for awhile until I upgraded to an Inline probe by Sunray called a DX-1 pinpointer. It's kinda pricey at $179 but well worth the money, I'll never go back to a vibra probe if I can help it. This inline probe attatches directly to the MXT and DFX detector and really helps me find the targets fast! You get about 3'' depth out of it, a really cool accessory to have! It's the real deal! :D

Don't believe Sun Ray offers a handheld unit. Only in line. Check their website and give them a call. Nice people.

The price is a bit high for just the detector. I use the Mxt with the sunray in line target probe, sunray headphones, and the 6x10dd coil. This combination works really well. You cant go wrong with the Xlt or the Mxt for relics. If you go to our nearest Whites dealer in Knoxville, you can test one at the store before you make a decision.
