where is everything.

Chief,
don't give up hope. Maybe try to find the old roads or where the site was set up. Old maps or library records might help. Has to be some reference to approx. where the battle was fought. The closer you pinpoint that the better chances you have. I don't have a concrete answer but hope this might help. Alto of the area may be under pavement like around here now and there is no way to recover it.

First off.....that's a fairly large engagement so there is a very good chance the area has "been dug" at lease a little bit. Old relic hunters didn't miss too many of those larger sites.
Secondly....the action may have actually taken place well on the outskirts of town. It was quite common for a report to mention the "Battle of" when in fact it wasn't actually in the town limits itself.

As Tim says.....try to find additional sources to help pinpoint the location a little better. If you can....find specifics of the action so that may help you in understanding battle lines and artillery emplacements more clearly.

Even if an old digger has gotten there ahead of you, there will still be plenty to put in the pouch to add to your collection once you nail the location a little tighter.
Good luck and less us know if you need a little research help.
