I returned yesterday to the Camp I had found Saturday evening. I posted Saturdays finds under Treasures. Yesterday was a 7 hour hunt.....lots of walking and digging. I'll return to this property trying to locate the old road bed in the middle of this pasture.

Thanks For Looking, HH, Roger

Hi RAW,

Nice finds, looks like you're onto a nice spot.

Curious about the sizes of the balls. Are these components of buck and ball or musket balls and pistol balls ?

I've found similar small balls before but could not correlate them to a buck and ball-type round. Maybe these were pistol balls ?

AND would this be a Union or Confederate camp ?

Thanks and good luck !

Good to Chat

Raw -

Good to chat for a while. Wow. You weren't kidding about the roundballs.

If you have anyone at the local airport that can give you a ride or if you can check out any aerial photos you may find that the road stands out like a sore thumb in the background of the pasture.

Have a great MD day.

Bill

Raw,

Good job, feller! I always love finding the button too! It is an "I" button isn't it? Can you see the backmark?
That one larger round ball has a very pronounced sprue.

Down here in south Arkansas we have not had a decent Saturday in the past three to get out and hunt much at all..... it's either been rainy or rain with ice mixed. I'll hunt in the cold... but, the cold and wet..... there's another day!

Take care,

Kim

Thanks for the replies

Hey Rodney, Most of these are the components of Bucks & Ball but I didn't dig a complete one. The closest was one .69 with two bucks in the same hole. There are a few larger than bucks that would be .36 pistol balls. From what I found the first day: Two Enfields, .577 Nose cast, three .75 Round balls and the many .69 Bucks & Balls I thought it to be a CS Camp and still do.....maybe an over camp because of the US "I".
Hey Bill, my problem is the muddy tractor road that runs to the back of the property. I'll ask the land owner if this might have been the old road or if he knows how it ran before it became a pasture.
Hey Kim, It is a dinged (not by me) "I" button.....I was hoping for a CS Button! I was off week-end before last but the Bone Cold Weather and Strong North Wind (wind chill in the teens both days) kept this old boy indoors!
Hey Danny, Yes Sir that is a .32 Smith & Wesson (measures .315 to .320 X .520. I found the very end of two of these cartridges.....this tells me that there is or was at least one more there. Showing a close-up of all these parts. No telling what has been push in with the stumps in the three bulldozer piles very close to these finds. I hunted up to them and around.
Thanks kaz99!

Thanks Again, Happy Hunting, Roger.....Come On Week-end!!!!!

Hey RAW,

Thanks for the measurements, I've got to run back a re-caliper a few of those small ball that I have found.

May be a chance that the "I" button was picked up/dropped by a Reb in the camp. Maybe even from a prisoner.

You're onto some good stuff. Can't wait to see what else you get.

Good luck !

Rodney
