Hi Forum

I wanted to post this very unique snake sword buckle I found this fall on the remnants of a colonial carriage road that use to lead to Boston. The area has roots all the way back to the 1630's. I have tried to research, but very little information exists. I would love to be able to date this buckle and find out the country of origin.
I consider this my favorite find and it gets my mind wondering if the person who wore this was slain by native indians or during the revolutionary war. I know they made replicas that were used in the civil war, but I believe this buckle is earlier. I would love to know who the face loop signifies.

I would like to hear your thoughts and if anyone has any ideas about this buckle. I was hoping to find some record of this buckle since it is military in nature.

Thanks. RCP
