Unidentified Buckle

I found this buckle on a Civil War site in Tennessee which is now the location of an old farm. I can't seem to identify this buckle in any of my books. It's 2 1/2 inches long and 1 1/2 inch wide. Do you guys know if it's from the Civil War or just old farm junk? chev615@msn.com

I'm no expert but because of the size of the buckle I would say it is horse related, possibly the girth strap buckle. Not sure if it's period. I keep all the brass items and think they are civil war related because most later were of cheaper material. Hope this helps.
