Weekend Finds

Hi Gang,

I took the Deepscan and the new Sun Ray for a walk in the woods this weekend. The long dry spell has ended ! (Pun intended ! )

Found my first Union button with an "I" in the shield, a couple pieces of broken horseshoes, a percussion cap, a small lead ball ( measures at 0.32 ), a BRASS (not iron ) elliptical ring and a small brass buckle.

Of course, I found plenty of GA regiment leftovers ( 12 GA and 16 GA ), 0.22 bullets and casings, a pellet, some nails, and assorted rusty iron. BUT that pin-pointer saved me tons of time and kept me moving. It helped locate the button so well that I was able to gently and smoothly remove it from the earth.

I'll post my ID requests in the appropriate slots. Enjoy the look !

Hi Frank,

Yep, the little suspender clip is nice. The center posts still move. Word is that if I clean it a bit more I may see the word Paris or a date of manufacture.

I agree that the ring does appear to be a link of chain. However, the detector shows the metal as being brass not iron. Strange.

Thanks for the note and the help.

Test the ring with a magnet. If it sticks to the magnet, it's iron. If it doesn't, it's brass. Sometimes larger iron will have a halo effect in the ground that will read like a good target . Quite a common experience.

Horse shoes.

I started carrying them out of the field the last few years. I hit them with a grinder and give them to kids. They love them.

Nice finds

Rodney,

Nice finds you posted, and I agree using the pin pointer is the way to go; it has more than saved me numerous times in the field in locating valuable targets without destroying them with my digging knife. Keep making the good finds and HH!
