What do I do?

Hey guys, I'm from south Florida and found a nice spot that I really want to dig, up by New Smyrna Beach. I understand that to union ships appeared off the coast there and fired upon the city for two days. The spot I want to dig appears to be on public property and I was wondering who I have to ask for permission? Maybe contact city hall.

Might check with the local parks commission or the chief of police. Site sounds interesting. The trouble hunting for artillery shells and fragments is the distinct possibility you may have to dig a rather large and deep hole, which in public land may be problematic. You might want to be vague about exactly what you are looking for. Coin hunting sounds less threatening than naval artillery shells, if you get my drift. Keep us posted on how this process works for you.

Be careful digging too deep in Florida. You may create a sink hole ! Then the parks department would have to name the lake after you !
