What kind of fuse is this?

Hello everyone, I found this fuse at a sight where I found a 3" Hotchkiss Sabot in 2009. I am not even sure it's a fuse, although, it does look like one. Can anyone help me identify it. Thanks, Mike.002.jpg003.jpg

You are doing the right thing by posting ID-requests for your unknown finds. I could tell you many stories of diggers who've thrown away a valuable relic because they did not recognize it as such at the time. Years later, they learn its actual ID, and go "Waaaaah!"

Several guys have told me they threw away a civil war artillery fuze because they thought it was just a worthless 20th-century plumbing part.
