I've only been metal detecting for three years and haven't been out much, especially last summer when it was so hot. Here are some of my finds.

Welcome padmaster!
Some nice coin shooting you have done there.
Isn’t it the biggest thrill to just go out and pick money right out of the ground!
I particularly love the Franklin half dollar, 1953 was the year that I was born.
By the way, nice photography, your pictures are great.
Keep hunting and posting what you discover.

Thanks, it certainly is a thrill to find coins, especially silver. When I found that Franklin half, you couldn't have wiped the smile off my face with a belt sander 8)

The small ring was another great find. I thought for sure I had found a diamond ring. It is silver, but unfortunately the jeweler said the stone was probably white sapphire. He said it was an older cut you don't see anymore....probably pre-60's.

The larger ring is just costume jewelry (bling-bling)

All of the pics are from my scanner except the large ring. I took that with my cannon 2mp camera. Just can't seem to get it to focus on small close up objects.

Danny is older than I am....... Danny is older than I am! Well, not much.... I'll be 53 this Sunday (22nd).

Welcome to the Forums padmaster. Glad to have you on board. You're picking up some nice pieces with your detecting. Keep up the good work!

Kim Allen

You have a good scanner!
Your camera is too close to the subject, try backing it off, use a high pixel count then enlarge & crop the finished picture in your photo editor program.
The zoom setting may or may not work well depending on the camera and subject matter?
Just messing around with it has been my procedure!

Kim

You always come sneaking up behind me while I’m typing a reply! :-?

And yes I am older than you and more handsome too! 8)

I think we may have another gold coin finding hunter on our hands again with padmaster that will make us all green with envy?

I have never found a gold coin. I started out detecting as a coin shooter in 1984 with my dad. I did that for 6 years until I moved to my current location in south Arkansas in 1990..... met up with a couple of guys that invited me to hunt CW relics with them, and I've been at it ever since........ yet, I have no gold coin in 23 years of detecting. So, when I see a gold coin being dug.... I know what a rarity it is..... and I appreciate just what an experience it might be for the finder!

Kim

Hey Padmaster,

Welcome to the forum ! Beware ! Danny and Kim are old and VERY cagey.

What part of the country are you in ? Also, tell us a little about the sites where you found the coins ( school grounds, old stores, parks ).

Plus, we like to hear about your detector and the signals that you get when you find the items. Depth is nice to know, too.

Then you can round it off with how hot it is, how many ticks you pulled off yourself, how many farmers shot at you, how many property owners ran you off, snakes and other pests, etc, etc.

Keep those photos coming !

Rodney

Rodney, you mentioned ticks...... They are so bad here this year. I guess it is because of such a warm March that we had. My relic hunting partner and I had a couple or three weekends where we really got into them. While hunting, and after I got home one Saturday.... I pulled 23 of the blood-suckin little varmits off of my person.... well, I and my wife. There were places... well, nevermind.

Kim

Hey Kim,

   Yeah, don't go there, OVERSHARE !!!

Put that mojo, anti-tick juice on your clothes.

Be careful,

Rodney

Did someone say gold coin?

You can imagine my gut reaction when I pulled this coin out of a school yard. I 'bout had a heart attack.

Hey Padmaster,

Rodney

And they are both older than me

I'm in North Alabama swinging a DFX with a stock 9.5" coil. I hunt mostly scool yards and parks. I've hunted a couple of old drive-in sites. Thats where I found the Franklin, a merc and a hand full of wheaties. Found the silver ring at a local campground swimming area. Found the civil war bullet on some private land, along with some poison ivy. I've been branching out as most of the local areas have been hunted to death. I've been hunting an old school for the past couple of weeks that has netted me 46 quarters, 37 dimes and a small childs play ring in just 6 hours of hunting. This place is certainly old enough to have silver but they've moved around a lot of dirt over the years. Most of the quarters I found were 5-6 inches deep and dated in the 65-75 time frame. Just above the silver line :-( I'm going back this weekend....wish me luck. I'll let everyone know what I find.

All right padmaster; now you have to state on the record that we do not know each other and my “gold coin” comment was not a premeditated set up!

These guys don’t take my word about anything the way it is now!

Fellows; can I smell a gold digger sneaking up or what!

And Rodney, didn’t you mean to say Danny and Kim are old and VERY cranky!

Bunch of dang young whipper snappers!

Hey folks........ Just how the @$*^($#)$%^@ heck did I get into this OLD and CRANKY Category. What the ^&$#@*&(!$%@!!$ did I do to deserve this designation.... and to be put into the same class with Danny? Sheesh!!

Rodney, I resemble that remark! My wife will attest to the fact that I am never.... well, almost never..... well, sometimes not Cranky! :x

All this malevolent verbage directed at me ...... and that fine, outstanding personage of a man.... Danny Spencer..... makes my heart hurt.

Best Regards

Kim

Hey Padmaster,

That's good stuff. I've not been much of a coin hunter but am looking to get into it. We have another forum-mate, Bama Dave, thats a top notch coin hunter and he uses a DFX. Plus KCSteve pulls in the coins, too.

Sounds like those coins get pretty deep over the years. Good luck this weekend.

I'm just North of Atlanta, so we're not too far apart.

Rodney

PS Forgive Danny and Kim, that Alzheimer medicine doesn't work too well !
